When Miller Theatre at Columbia University had a new website designed and built, their designer relied on ExpressionEngine to power the backend management of the site. While the resulting site was beautiful, some corners were cut in the development process, so Miller Theatre came to Conflux Group for help.
One of the key concerns that Miller Theatre brought to us was the search functionality on the site. While the search worked, it wasn't searching all of the site's content. As a part of Columbia University, Miller Theatre has access to the university's Google Search Appliance, a powerful tool which provides the power of Google's search for use on university websites.
When we first started working with Miller Theatre, there were a number of immediate issues that we addressed, making sure functionality on the site was working correctly and starting a process of optimizing the code on the site for both speed and search engine optimization.
We replaced the search tool on the site with a customized integration of the Google Search Appliance, allowing search results to look and feel exactly the same as they did before, but providing much better search results.
