Chapel.org Improvements

Upgrading an aging CMS and adding new user functionality for a large church website

The Chapel is a large, multi-campus church with 7 locations throughout Illinois. Their site was built several years ago in ExpressionEngine, before version 2 was released. Since the initial launch, various changes were made to the site.

It was time to clean the site up and upgrade it to the latest version of ExpressionEngine, so new functionality could be added using the most current available tools. All of the existing design and content was transferred from the legacy site to a development version where functionality was tested and verified.

After the upgrade was complete, new functionality was added to allow for an ExpressionEngine-native event calendar. Previously the site ran through feeds from Google Calendar, which made more complex searching and filtering impossible. The Solspace Calendar module was installed and the templates were reworked to use the new module.

A new user interface was created to allow for complex multiple-category filtering of events.

The new event calendar user interface allows for filtering by category and campus as well as keyword searches.
